A conditonal cheeseburger

The guy wanted to get into the house
with the ketchup inside a cheeseburger
wrapped up and under his arm
Home anxiety knocked him out

Though that reality fell into the folds
Of a time that never happened but could
the anger always brewed and the doorway
well it was a conditional welcome

Home anxiety and dim lights
vacant spaces left unfinished
The pride of the homeowner
the anger that brewed in every doorway

In the dark with nothing more
than the front house lights and inside lights
giving just enough sight to see the man down
He knew the rules and broke them anyway

But it never happened
It happened a thousand times
The neon light of nearby city didn't disturb it
a front step fight in a house so foreign

none of the culprits could ever imagine
they came from a physical time
that never existed
their nostalgic pain and longing

is blood in the vein
shooting to fingers
that crave hugging
no arms or bodies to embrace

your own conditional welcome
shoed them off

what a fictional neighborhood of emotion
