On the square under the extensive awning
Where we were to arrive
Thin film of water on the sleek concrete
Daylight not quite reaching
On the square where new people and vehicles aimed to be
A covered parking lot on the hillside
Humans negotiate and switch places
The shade of the morning swapping with the afternoon
Smell of diesel and motor oil
stains slip long ways pointing down the hill
Lines of people waiting sometimes in groups
Almost content with the idleness of being stuck
Across the land sitting on the other side of the mountain
Was another settlement building a fountain and planting trees
That level of freedom would never be given to us
We were the lover of illusions, they lovers of life
