Honesty has it's own worth in the currency of love
That commodity honesty is refined when it humbles us and exalts others
And when criticism is delivered delicately the value of honesty rises
When it is delivered as a rebuke or abruptly it is blunt change you offer to another
For honesty can only be measured in the currency of love
When you are honest to hurt others your truth is but nonfiction loaned by lies
And worth a hundred times less than a white lie told in the name of compassion
For a white lie told to save a life fetches a high price at love's auction
There I long to be, where sense and compassion sit bidding to make their fortune
from simple people who invest in honesty even when it seems like a balloon
Heavy truths may weigh well in the bank of thoughts but confound
For those who deal in honesty, their stock in love is sound
