We exited the gate
Heart on the sidewalk
brain middle of the road
Street empty
low weeds carling up from last rainfall
Gutter murmurs under moss
doors and gates remain closed
tarmac tongue silent
The dog wants to walk
His eyes are the dark wood
ears the leaves
To get a piece of the forest
And yes the sun subdues the wind
The clouds and blinded my little dog
We walked toward it like proving a point
all dry and clumsy we ambled over concrete
